Richard & Ina Balash Scholarship

The Richard & Ina Balash (RIB) Scholarship — created in 2003 — was designed to recognize and support graduating high school seniors who fall in the middle of the GPA spectrum but who have shown promise, especially during their senior year.
Why this scholarship exists
- Richard Balash wanted to reward students with mid-range GPAs who might be overlooked by awards that favor only the very highest achievers or those with demonstrated financial hardship. Ina Balash added that their goal is to give seniors a clearer path toward “successful and rewarding careers.”
- In short: the RIB Scholarship looks for students who are ready to move forward, even if their earlier grades don’t tell the whole story.
Who is eligible
If you meet all of the following, you should consider applying:
- You are a graduating senior who lives in the attendance area for Kentwood or Kentlake High School, or you attend one of those schools (this includes students at private schools and home-school programs who live in the same boundaries).
- You plan to pursue a career in Business or in one of the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
- The college or trade school you plan to attend is located in Washington state.
