Hubert A. Nelson Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation
Each year Boreal Waters distributes more than $800,000 in scholarships to learners across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. These awards are made possible by generous individuals, families, and organizations who want to help local students — of any age — continue their education, expand opportunities, and return value to their communities.
Before you apply
- If you’re planning to attend a college, community or technical college, university, or trade school, these scholarships are worth a look.
- Use the scholarship search tool to find awards that match your hometown, academic interests, and experience. Many scholarships are grouped into a single universal application for convenience.
- Important timeline: the universal application opens December 2025 and closes February 24, 2026. Mark those dates now and start gathering documents (transcripts, proof of residency, evidence of financial need, personal statement, recommendation letters) so you’re ready when it opens.
Who can apply
- Students of all ages and backgrounds who live in northeast Minnesota or northwest Wisconsin.
- Applicants planning post‑secondary study (college, technical school, trade school).
- Many awards also require specific ties — such as school attendance, field of study, or community involvement — so read each scholarship’s criteria closely. High school seniors, current college students, and adult learners are commonly eligible.
