Evans Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Western Golf Association
Here’s a clearer, teacher-style version of the information—organized so a motivated student can follow what to do, when to do it, and what’s required.
What the Evans Scholarship is
- A full-tuition, on-campus housing scholarship for high-achieving caddies who have limited financial means.
- Awards are made by a Scholarship Committee that reviews completed applications, interviews finalists, and makes final decisions by April 1.
Who may apply
- Seniors in high school (applications open at the beginning of senior year) and college freshmen may apply.
- Key eligibility areas: a strong caddie record, good academics, demonstrated financial need, and outstanding character.
Core requirements (short version)
- Caddie record: At least two years of regular, successful caddying. Applicants are expected to caddie at their sponsoring club during the year they apply.
- Academics: Above a B average after junior year in college-preparatory courses. (Note: ACT/SAT are optional for 2025 applicants.)
- Financial need: You must show a clear need for financial assistance.
- Character: High standards of integrity, leadership, and character.

- Online application
- CSS Profile (completed and submitted)
- FAFSA Submission Summary (with the Student Aid Index)

- Oct 15: All materials are expected to be in (application plus all supporting documents listed above).
- After Oct 15: The Scholarship Committee begins review and will interview finalists.
- Apr 1: Final decisions are completed by this date.
Practical tips from a teacher
- Start early. Ask recommenders and evaluators well before September so they have time to write thoughtful responses.
- Keep a checklist and a folder for each document (transcript, recommendations, CSS confirmation, FAFSA Submission Summary).
- Track deadlines for CSS and FAFSA—these often open around Oct 1 and can take time to process.
- When you ask for recommendations, give referees a short resume or list of accomplishments and a clear deadline.
- If anything is unclear, contact the Scholarship Committee early rather than waiting.
If you’d like, I can turn this into a printable checklist or help you draft an email to request a recommendation. Which would be most helpful?
