If you’re planning to pursue a career in energy efficiency, read this carefully — the Iowa Association for Energy Efficiency (IAEE) is offering a $1,000 scholarship for 2024 to support students training for work in this field. The goal is simple: help develop the next generation of energy-efficiency professionals in Iowa.

Key dates
- Application and letters of recommendation must be received by May 1, 2024.
- Scholarship winner announced in July 2024 and will be recognized at the IAEE Iowa Energy Summit.
- Award payment will be sent directly to the recipient’s school by August 2024.

Who is eligible
To qualify, you must:
- Be pursuing post–high school education (undergraduate or certificate program; graduate students are not eligible).
- Be enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution in Iowa.
- Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Be committed to a career in the energy efficiency industry.
- Be available for a virtual interview if you are selected as a finalist.

How to apply
1. Complete the application form (see application materials for the mailing or email address).
2. Include letters of recommendation following the guidelines below.
3. Mail or email the completed application and letters so they are received by May 1, 2024.
4. IAEE will send an email confirmation once your materials are received.

Letters of recommendation — what they should include
- Focus on your interest, knowledge, and commitment to pursuing work in energy efficiency.
- Cannot be written by family members.
- Follow any format or submission instructions on the application form.

Checklist before you submit (to avoid simple mistakes)
- Application form complete and signed (if required).
- At least the required number of recommendation letters included.
- GPA meets the 2.5 minimum and enrollment is at an accredited Iowa institution.
- Contact information included and you’re available for a possible virtual interview.

Scholarship policies (important)
- Funds are to be used as part of your total financial aid package for required tuition, books, supplies, and/or fees.
- IAEE will pay the scholarship directly to the post-secondary school.
- A student may receive more than one IAEE scholarship across different years, but no one student may receive more than $2,000 total. You must reapply in subsequent years to be considered again.
- All awarded funds must be used within one year of the award date.
- IAEE is not obligated to award scholarships if submitted applications do not meet standards.
- Selection will be based on demonstrated interest in energy efficiency, the relevance of your chosen degree, and the strength of recommendation letters.
