Purpose (in plain language)
The GSK Opportunity Scholarship supports Triangle residents who have faced serious obstacles but show strong motivation to improve their lives through further education or training. It’s for students who demonstrate resilience and the potential to succeed when given financial support.
Who is eligible
- Minimum GPA: 2.5
- Residency: Must live in one of these North Carolina counties — Chatham, Durham, Orange, or Wake
- High school: No specific restrictions (current high school seniors and other applicants may apply)
- College plan: Must be attending or plan to attend a public college or university in North Carolina. Any degree program is acceptable.
How the award is used and continued
- The scholarship can be applied to any cost listed under your school’s total cost of attendance (tuition, fees, housing, etc.). You are responsible for any remaining charges.
- Payments are distributed once per year for up to four years (up to $5,000 each year).
- To keep receiving payments you must remain in good academic standing and submit semester reports as requested.
How to apply (step-by-step)
1. Use the universal online application system.
2. Complete the eligibility quiz; the system will then display scholarships you qualify for.
3. Submit both the universal application and the specific GSK Opportunity Scholarship questions — you must complete both for consideration.
4. If you have questions, contact the Foundation well before the March 9, 2026 deadline.
