North Carolina Hispanic College Fund — summary and application basics
Purpose
- The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund (NCHCF) was created by the NCSHP and is administered through the Triangle Community Foundation to support Hispanic/Latino students from North Carolina who plan to continue their education. The scholarships help offset the rising cost of college and encourage commitment to public service and community development.
Award
- Annual scholarships range from $500 to $3,000.
Who is eligible
- Recent graduates of North Carolina high schools (graduated within the past two years).
- Students of Hispanic/Latino background.
- Students who will enroll in a degree program at a community college or a two- or four-year college/university.
- Applicants who demonstrate a commitment to public service and community development.
Required materials / selection criteria
- Cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
- Two letters of recommendation (acceptable authors: high school teacher, principal, pastor, employer, or another community leader).
- Official high school transcript.
- Personal statement (about 500 words).
Additional considerations (how recipients are chosen)
- Preference given to applicants who are foreign-born or are native-born children of foreign-born parents.
- Recipients will be selected based on a combination of:
- Family economic need
- Community involvement and volunteerism
- Academic achievement
- Leadership
