Quick overview - The Nurse Corps Scholarship Program pays your tuition, eligible fees, and other approved educational costs and gives you a monthly stipend while you’re in school. In return, after you graduate you commit to work at a health care facility that serves a community with a critical shortage of nurses. Who is eligible You meet the basic eligibility requirements if you: - Are a U.S. citizen (born or naturalized), a U.S. national, or a lawful permanent resident - Are accepted to or enrolled in a nursing degree program at a U.S. school of nursing accredited by the appropriate body - Will begin classes by September 30 (no later) - Do not have federal judgment liens against you - Do not have an existing service commitment to another program - Are not overdue on any federal debt Note: applicants with the greatest financial need are given funding preference. What the scholarship covers If you receive an award, the program will provide: - A monthly stipend while you study - Payment of tuition - Payment of eligible fees - Reasonable educational costs such as books, clinical supplies/instruments, and uniforms What counts as a “critical shortage” facility - A critical shortage facility is a public or private health care facility located in, designated as, or serving a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA). - An HPSA is a geographic area or population that does not have enough primary care or mental health professionals to meet local needs. If you meet these criteria and are interested in serving communities with real need for nurses, this program is worth applying for.
