McDonald's HACER National Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by McDonalds
Here’s a clearer, teacher-friendly version you can use to explain the McDonald’s HACER® National Scholarship to students.
Overview
- The McDonald’s HACER® National Scholarship helps Hispanic and Latino college-bound students pay for college. Since the program began, it has awarded more than $33 million and supports up to 30 outstanding students nationwide each year. The scholarship is part of McDonald’s effort to expand educational opportunity for diverse communities.
Scholarship awards (three tiers)
- Tier 1: Up to $100,000
- Tier 2: $20,000 or $10,000
- Tier 3: $5,000
Awards are paid directly to the college or training program and are intended to help cover tuition and related educational costs.

Required application materials
No essay is required beyond the personal statement. You will need to submit:
- High school transcript
- Personal statement
- One letter of recommendation (submitted online)
- A list of community service projects
Important note about FAFSA
- You do NOT need to provide your FAFSA Student Aid Index (SAI) during the initial application.
- If you become a semi-finalist, you will be asked to submit your FAFSA Submission Summary. To avoid delays, complete your FAFSA early.
Timeline
- Watch your email in April to learn if you are a semi-finalist.
- Final winners are notified by June.
If you’re advising students: encourage them to prepare transcripts, a thoughtful personal statement, a strong recommendation, and a clear summary of community service now — and to complete the FAFSA so they’re ready if they advance to the semifinalist stage.
