About the Ortega Foundation Scholarship
The Ortega Foundation Scholarship was created to honor founder Jose Antonio Ortega, Sr., who believed that strong academic performance should open the door to college. The scholarship supports Miami‑Dade County students who are planning to attend college and can be applied toward your school’s official cost of attendance. Awards are undergraduate-only and, if selected, you may receive up to $7,000 per year for up to four years.
Key dates and how to apply
- Application deadline: Sunday, March 29, 2026, by 11:59 p.m.
- How to apply: Submit your application online through the Miami Foundation’s scholarship portal at miamifoundation.org/scholarships.
- Important: The Foundation does not accept mailed, faxed, or emailed applications. Review your application carefully and complete every required section before you submit.
Who is eligible
To qualify you must:
- Be a resident of Miami‑Dade County
- Be a high school senior graduating in Spring 2026
- Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5
What the Selection Committee looks at
A Scholarship Advisory Committee will review applications and make final award decisions. They will consider:
- Academic achievement
- Financial need
- Responses to essay questions
- Personal statement essay
- Letter of recommendation
- Short personal video
Teacher’s tips (brief)
- Start early and give your recommender plenty of notice.
- Proofread your essays and practice your short video so it’s clear and concise.
- Make sure your GPA is reported correctly and that every required item is uploaded before the deadline.
