Ralph H and Ruth Frank Gross Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Community Foundation of Broward County
Overview This scholarship honors Ralph and Ruth Frank Gross and their belief that a good education changes lives. It was created to help often unrecognized government employees and their families in Broward County improve their circumstances through college, university, or vocational study.
Award
- $500 to $2,500 per recipient
Basic eligibility requirements (all of the following)
- Demonstrate financial need and not be receiving any other scholarship or grant.
- Be a resident of Florida.
- Plan to attend a college, university, or vocational school located in Florida (full- or part-time). Graduate students are not eligible.
- Agree not to use tobacco products, illegal drugs, or to abuse alcohol for the duration of the award.
- Agree not to join a social sorority or fraternity while receiving the award (membership in honorary, academic, or professional societies is permitted).
- If your employer offers a tuition reimbursement program, you may be ineligible.
Additional requirement for graduating high school students
- Provide official high school transcripts and have an SAT score of at least 1100 (Critical Reading + Math).
Employment-related eligibility (applicant must meet at least one)
- Current full-time employee of a governmental entity in Broward County; or
- Retired or past employee who worked full-time for a governmental entity in Broward County continuously for at least five years; or
- Past employee who became disabled as a result of performing job duties while employed full-time for at least five years at a governmental entity in Broward County; or
- Spouse (or a former spouse of at least five years) or child of either:
- a current full-time Broward County government employee, or
- a person who meets one of the employment conditions above, or
- a person who was killed in the line of duty while employed full-time for at least five years by a governmental entity in Broward County.
