Pulver Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Glens Falls Foundation
The Glens Falls Foundation, through a bequest from Harry Brereton Pulver, awards renewable undergraduate scholarships to students from our area who attend Dartmouth College or Harvard University. Below is a clear guide to who is eligible, what the award looks like, and exactly what you must submit.
Purpose and eligibility
- Who: Students who are residents of Warren, Washington, or Saratoga counties in New York State.
- Where: Must be enrolled (or planning to enroll) as an undergraduate at Dartmouth College or Harvard College.
- Criteria: Good moral character, good academic standing, and demonstrated financial need.
- Length: Awards may be renewed for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Award amount and payment
- Minimum award: $2,000 per year for up to four years.
- The actual award may be larger depending on the fund’s income and the applicant pool in any given year.
- Payments are sent directly to the student each July.
Continuing eligibility (for returning recipients)
- To renew the scholarship after the first year, you must submit a letter from the Dean confirming you successfully completed the current academic year.
- A college transcript must be provided in a sealed envelope sent directly from the college.
Application—what to include
Type or print legibly (black ink recommended). Assemble the following and submit as directed below.
- A completed Pulver Scholarship application form (available at glensfallsfoundation.org).
- A copy of your financial aid award letter from Dartmouth or Harvard, if you received one. If you did not receive a formal letter, explain your financial circumstances in your essay.
- High school transcript including grades through the first semester of your senior year (for incoming students).
- A complete list of extracurricular activities and volunteer work.
- At least two letters of recommendation.
- Documentation that you will be attending Dartmouth or Harvard (admission letter, enrollment confirmation, etc.).
- An essay describing how the Pulver Scholarship will help you achieve your undergraduate goals. Use the essay to provide information not captured elsewhere in the application and to explain your financial situation if you do not have a financial aid letter.
Where to get the application and how to submit
- Download the application from: glensfallsfoundation.org
- Email completed applications and supporting documents to: administrator@glensfallsfoundation.org
Quick tips from a teacher
- Be specific in your essay: name concrete goals, explain financial need plainly, and tell the committee something they can’t learn from a transcript.
- Ask recommenders to address both your academic promise and your character.
- Double-check that any required transcript or Dean’s letter for renewals is sent directly from the college in a sealed envelope, as specified.
If you have questions or need clarification, contact the Glens Falls Foundation through their website or at the email above. Good luck—this fund is meant to support talented students from our community as they pursue top-tier undergraduate studies.
