Overview
The You First Foundation provides financial support to families affected by traumatic medical events. Since the scholarship program began, the foundation — created by employees of First Service Credit Union after they lost a coworker to a brain aneurysm — has awarded more than $200,000 to students. Each year we offer scholarships of up to $6,000 to help recipients continue their education.
Who may apply
This scholarship is open to students of all ages who meet these requirements:
- Texas resident.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational school in the United States (part-time or full-time).
- Minimum 2.7 GPA.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- If applicable, include college, university, or vocational transcripts.
How applications are reviewed (what to expect)
- Applications accepted beginning April 19, 2023; deadline is May 31, 2023.
- The You First Foundation Scholarship Committee (an independent panel made up of foundation board members) reviews all submissions and selects the recipient(s).
- Winners will be notified by the end of June 2023.
Award disbursement
- Scholarships of up to $6,000 are awarded and paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution.
Important instructions and tips (teacher advice)
- Only online applications submitted through the link provided by the foundation will be accepted; emailed, mailed, or hand-delivered packets will not be considered.
- Start early: request recommendation letters and collect your documents well before the deadline.
- Keep copies of everything you submit and double-check that your GPA and residency meet the requirements.
