The legal team at Varghese Summersett PLLC, who specialize in criminal law at both state and federal levels, are deeply committed to the criminal justice system. Despite their passion, they recognize the system's imperfections and are dedicated to its continuous improvement. In an effort to inspire the next generation of legal professionals, they are delighted to offer the annual Criminal Justice Changemaker Scholarship. This scholarship awards $1,000 to a deserving student to support their educational journey.
As society evolves, so too must our laws and the penalties associated with them. Therefore, we are extending an invitation to incoming or current law school students to express their views on a current law or piece of legislation that they believe needs updating. Applicants are encouraged to articulate how this proposed reform in the criminal justice system could have a significant and enduring impact on society. This scholarship opportunity is particularly suited to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of criminal justice.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- Be an incoming or current law student in the United States
- Have an interest in pursuing a career in criminal justice
Application Requirements
- Provide a current resume
- Submit a current transcript
- Specify the law school you are attending or to which you are seeking admission
- Write an original essay of 500-1500 words expressing your opinion on a current law or piece of legislation that needs updating, and explain how this change could have a lasting impact on society
- Note: There is no GPA requirement for this scholarship
Application Deadline
All scholarship application materials must be submitted by October 1, 2025. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Please ensure that your essay is original and has not been previously published elsewhere. Also, refrain from using any copyrighted material in your submission.
