Americanism Essay Contest

If you’re a student in grades 7–12 (including home-schooled students), consider entering the FRA Americanism Essay Contest — an annual competition designed to encourage thoughtful reflection on Americanism and patriotism.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Eligibility: Open to all students in grades 7–12, including home-schooled students.
- Length and topic: Write a 350‑word essay addressing the contest theme (promoting Americanism and patriotism).
- How to submit: Turn your essay in through an FRA member or your local FRA branch.
- Deadline: Entries must be received by December 1.
Competition structure:
- Local winners advance to regional competition.
- Regional winners move on to the national level.
Awards and recognition:
- Grand national winner: $1,500.
- Other national prizes: $1,000 (first place), $750 (second place), $500 (third place).
- Each national winner also receives a commemorative plaque.
- Every entrant judged at the national level receives a certificate of recognition.
- Additional prizes may be awarded at the local and regional levels.
