Community Leadership Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Underwood Law Office
The legal team and staff at The Underwood Law Office are active members of our local community. One way they give back is by supporting students who show the kind of leadership and commitment that help communities thrive. The Underwood Law Office Community Leadership Scholarship was created to identify and assist those students as they pursue higher education. Why this scholarship exists - Strong communities depend on leaders — people who think ahead, serve others, adapt when needed, and act with humility and purpose. - This scholarship is intended to spotlight and support students who demonstrate those qualities and who plan to keep serving their communities as they grow. Who should apply - We want to hear from a wide range of applicants. Whether you’re newly accepted to college or already enrolled, if you care about your community and can show it through your actions — in school, work, internships, or volunteer activities — you are encouraged to apply. Required materials and application steps To be considered, applicants must submit the following by the posted deadline on the application page: - Completed application form (on this page). - Unofficial transcript showing a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. - A written essay responding to the prompt provided on the application. - Current resume. - At least one letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to your community involvement. - Agreement to the scholarship’s Terms and Conditions. Eligibility and selection factors Applicants must meet these basic eligibility requirements: - Minimum 2.5 GPA (attach an unofficial transcript). - Evidence of meaningful community service and an expressed commitment to continued service. - Submission of all required documents by the deadline. - Agreement to the scholarship’s Terms and Conditions. Selection will take into account: - Demonstrated leadership and community impact. - Academic performance and satisfactory progress (recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress according to their college or university’s standards). - Extracurricular involvement, honors, and awards. - Strength of the essay and recommendations. - Financial need is not required and will not be a deciding factor. A few final notes - Make sure your essay answers the prompt on the application and is proofread before submission. - Include clear documentation of your community work (dates, roles, and outcomes) when possible. - If you win the scholarship, you’ll be expected to maintain the academic progress required by your school and follow any other conditions spelled out in the award agreement. We look forward to reading applications from students who are ready to lead and serve their communities. If you have questions about the application materials, check the application page for details or the scholarship Terms and Conditions.
