If you’re a high school senior who’s been accepted into a university-level STEM program and you care about advancing women in STEM, this is one to consider.
What the award is
- One recipient will receive $1,500 from the Zonta Club of Dallas (this award is unique to the club).
Who is eligible
- High school students completing their final year (seniors).
- Must already be accepted to a university-level STEM program.
- Must show evidence of strong academic achievement.
- Should be interested in advancing the status of women through STEM skills.
- Should have experience or examples of community volunteerism, leadership, and advocacy for women in STEM.
A bit of history
- The Ruth Maddox Young Women in STEM Award honors Ruth Maddox, a long-time Zonta Club of Dallas member and one of the earliest female electrical engineering graduates from SMU (1948). She spent 38 years designing lighting systems for Dallas Power & Light (now TXU). The award recognizes students who combine STEM interests with community leadership and advocacy for women.
