AGMA Foundation Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by AGMA Foundation
The AGMA Foundation offers an annual scholarship program catered towards students aiming to build a career in the gear industry, or in power transmission as it pertains to the gear sector. Potential applicants must be enrolled, or recently accepted, as either full- or part-time students in a nationally recognized program. Scholarships are granted to students at technical/associate, undergraduate, and graduate educational levels. Priority is given to candidates who have current or previous experience in the gear or power transmission industry.
Overview and Qualification Criteria
The AGMA Foundation's annual scholarship program welcomes students pursuing a career in the gear industry, or in power transmission as it relates to the gear sector. Candidates need to be enrolled or recently accepted as full- or part-time students in a nationally accredited program. Scholarships are offered to students at technical/associate, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Priority is given to candidates who have current or recent experience in the gear or power transmission sectors.
The scholarship funds are disbursed directly to the school and can be utilized for tuition fees, lodging and meals, textbooks, and course materials. The scholarships are announced in August each year and paid in two halves - one in September of the same year, and the other in March of the following year. Students who discontinue their studies in the spring semester will forfeit the second installment.
The categories of scholarships, renewal terms, and award amounts are as follows:
Technical school/associate degree students can receive a scholarship award of up to $2,500. The scholarship can be renewed in subsequent years, up to a maximum total of $7,500. Scholarship renewal isn't automatic; students need to submit a complete application on time for consideration. Winning a technical school/associate degree scholarship doesn't prevent students from applying for higher-level scholarships and doesn't contribute towards the maximum funding limit at higher levels.
Undergraduate students can receive up to a $5,000 scholarship award, which can be renewed for three additional years, up to a total of $20,000. Past AGMA Foundation scholarships awarded at the technical/associate degree level aren't counted towards the $20,000 undergraduate-level aggregate.
Graduate students can receive up to a $5,000 scholarship award, renewable for two additional years, up to a total of $15,000. Previous AGMA Foundation scholarships awarded at the technical/associate or undergraduate levels don't count towards the $15,000 graduate-level aggregate.
Assessment Criteria
Ensure the following is included in your application:
- Grade Point Average – It must be 3.0 or higher for Undergraduate and Graduate students, and 2.0 or higher for Technical/associate degree students

- Work experience in the gear and/or power transmission industry
- Two recommendation letters, which should be sent directly to Foundation@agma.org
- Awards, honors, and other recognitions of the student’s work and leadership abilities
- A personal statement encompassing proposed study program, career objectives, and financial need
- (For graduate-level scholarships) Relevance of graduate-level research to the gear and/or power transmission industry
