Overview
The Jewish Community Foundation offers college scholarships funded by generous donors who want to help local students afford higher education. Each donor creates their own fund with its own priorities, but the common goal is the same: support students with promise who need financial help. The Foundation awards nearly $100,000 in scholarships each year.

Who these scholarships are for (basic eligibility)
Before you apply, make sure you meet these basic criteria:

- Most scholarship funds require applicants to be Jewish. (Definition used by many funds: at least one parent is Jewish and the applicant identifies as Jewish, or the applicant has completed a formal conversion.)
- You must be accepted to or currently enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning in the United States (or at a program affiliated with a U.S. institution).
- You must be a current resident of the Greater Hartford, CT region.
- You must be a United States citizen.

Note: Individual funds sometimes add extra requirements (for example, a specific field of study, academic record, or community service). We review your single application against each fund’s criteria and match you to scholarships for which you qualify.

Special exceptions
- Anne E. Wall Scholarship: Open to all Bloomfield, CT residents regardless of religious affiliation; demonstrates financial need is required.
- June Miller Rosenblatt Scholarship: Open to all Greater Hartford residents regardless of religious affiliation; demonstrates financial need and is pursuing a major that leads to a career in education.

How to apply
- Complete one online application to be considered for all Foundation scholarships. (This single application lets us match you to every fund for which you could qualify.)
- The application opens in January and must be completed by May 15.
- Incomplete applications may not be considered.
- Recipients from prior years are welcome to reapply, but receiving past support does not guarantee future awards.

What the awards look like
- Typical awards range from $1,000 to $3,000.
- The Foundation distributes nearly $100,000 each year across its scholarship programs.

Review process, confidentiality, and timeline
- The Scholarship Committee reviews applications anonymously and considers each applicant for all eligible funds.
- Applicants are notified of awards or denials typically in late June.
- All awards are confidential; a recipient’s name will not be shared without their permission.

Expectations of scholarship recipients
- Unless prevented by health issues or another emergency, recipients are expected to complete the year of study covered by the award. If you do not complete the year without an approved reason, you may be required to refund the scholarship amount.
- Recipients are asked to send thank-you letters to the donors who made their scholarships possible.
