The 2024-2025 Scholarship Application is open! CHA will award 125 scholarships of $2,000.

AWARD DETAILS

  • Up to 125 scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded annually and awards are not renewable. Students may reapply each year as long as they continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
  • The scholarships will be applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment required for course load at accredited, two* or four-year colleges/universities in the United States.
  • CHA Scholarship Funds may not be applied to any past debt with your institution.
  • *CHA Scholarship Funds may be used at any accredited community college except the City Colleges of Chicago, as additional funding support for CCC students is provided through the CHA/City Colleges of Chicago Partners in Education program. CHA residents attending City Colleges of Chicago are not eligible to receive the CHA Scholarship and need not apply.
  • *If you are interested in funding support for a vocational or technical program – please consider the CHA/City Colleges of Chicago program. The Chicago Housing Authority has a partnership with the City Colleges of Chicago, wherein students receive assistance with unmet costs related to tuition, uniforms, books and exam fees, after financial aid is applied.   • Students may transfer from one institution to another and retain the award.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible for this award, you must:

  • be a high school senior or be in your college undergraduate studies as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior. 
  • be pursuing your Undergraduate degree (such as a Certificate, Associates, or Bachelors). Advanced degree studies (such as Masters, Doctorate) are no longer eligible for program support.
  • plan to attend an accredited, non-profit, or for-profit, two- or four-year college/university in the United States in the fall of 2024.
  • be a current resident in either the Chicago Housing Authority’s Public Housing Program or the Chicago Housing Authority’s Housing Choice Voucher Program; be currently listed on a CHA lease.
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale to apply; a minimum GPA of 2.5 is recommended.
  • have a household income that does not exceed HUD’s low-income limit (80% AMI) for Cook County, Illinois. CHA will verify. For more information, visit HUD's website.

No exceptions will be made.

SELECTION CRITERIA

An independent selection committee will evaluate the Complete applications and select recipients considering:

  • Academic achievements and records
  • Community involvement
  • Essay content

  • Application Open: January 30, 2024
  • Application Deadline: May 15, 2024
  • Notification of Selection Results: July 5, 2024
  • Funds Disbursed: July 31, 2024
