Worthington Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Worthington Scholarship Foundation
If you’re ready to invest effort in your future, we’re ready to invest in you. The Worthington Scholarship Foundation helps Maine students get to college by providing need- and merit-based awards to graduates of partner public high schools who plan to attend a participating Maine college or university.
What the scholarship gives you
- Awards are based on both financial need and merit, and we try to keep representation from a wide range of partner high schools. We also consider what you tell us in your essays about academic interests and life experiences.
- Scholarship amounts can total up to $20,000.
- If you attend a four-year college: up to $2,500 per semester.
- If you attend a community college: up to $1,500 per semester (with the option to transfer later to a four-year institution).
Who is eligible (quick checklist)
- Maine resident and a graduating senior at one of our participating public high schools.
- Planning to enroll full-time the fall after graduation at one of our partner two- or four-year colleges or universities.
- FAFSA completed and SAI of 30,000 or less.
- Minimum high school GPA:
- For community college scholarships: C- or higher.
- For four-year college scholarships: B- or higher.
- Eligible programs include certificate programs, associate’s degrees, and bachelor’s degrees.
How to apply (simple steps)
1. File the FAFSA early. Your SAI must be 30,000 or less to be eligible.
2. Apply and get accepted to one of our partner colleges (see the partner list in our eligibility requirements).
3. Complete the Worthington Scholarship application through our online portal before the deadline. You’ll answer a few eligibility questions and provide short responses/essays about yourself—these often overlap with materials you’re already preparing for college applications.
4. Wait for notification. Finalists are typically announced at your high school’s award night or graduation ceremony.
5. If selected, enroll in your partnered college and meet the scholarship’s semester-by-semester requirements to continue receiving funds.
Quick tips from a teacher
- Start your FAFSA as soon as it opens so you know your SAI.
- Keep copies of your transcript, acceptance letters, and any essays—many of these items will be useful for other scholarships and admissions.
- If you’re unsure whether your high school or college is in the partner network, check our eligibility page or ask your guidance counselor.
If you want, tell me the name of your high school and the college you’re thinking about and I’ll help you check eligibility and figure out the next steps.
