Good news for graduating seniors who are dependents of San Miguel Power Association (SMPA) members: SMPA awards up to $46,500 in college and vocational scholarships each year. We typically give up to eighteen scholarships to deserving students pursuing post‑secondary education or vocational training.
Who is eligible
- Dependents of SMPA members who are graduating high school seniors.
Important deadlines
- First deadline: January 30, 2026 — Basin Electric and Alltricity scholarships.
- Second deadline: March 9, 2026 — SMPA collegiate and vocational scholarships, plus Tri‑State scholarships.
Scholarships available (summary)
- Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship — $2,500 (deadline Jan 30, 2026)
- SMPA selects one candidate from its graduating pool. Usable at any accredited post‑secondary institution.
- Alltricity Scholarship Foundation — $1,500–$3,000+ (deadline Jan 30, 2026)
- For students pursuing curricula related to the electric energy industry: engineering, business, information systems, plant/line/distribution technology, line worker training, etc. Apply online through the Alltricity site (follow application instructions there).
- San Miguel Power Association Scholarship — $3,000 (deadline Mar 9, 2026)
- Collegiate scholarship awarded to qualifying students.
- San Miguel Power Association Vocational Scholarship — $3,000 (deadline Mar 9, 2026)
- For students pursuing vocational training.
- Tri‑State Generation & Transmission Scholarships — 2 × $500 (deadline Mar 9, 2026)

- Basin Electric and SMPA scholarship applications: the PDF application can be completed digitally and emailed to alex@smpa.com with your essay and supporting documents attached, or printed and delivered to an SMPA office:

- Alltricity scholarships: apply online (use the Alltricity Scholarship Foundation website).
- In every case, your completed application must be received by the deadline for that scholarship.
