Jerome Burke, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and nephew, left a lasting legacy despite never having children of his own. His love, mentorship, and provision for numerous children were remarkable. To honor his memory and continue his work, the Jerome Burke Foundation was established. The foundation's mission is to promote and support higher education among young African American men.
The Jerome Burke Foundation offers scholarships to African American high school males who are planning to attend accredited colleges, universities, or trade schools. In addition to financial support, the foundation also provides mentorship to these students during their freshman year of college, ensuring they have the guidance and support they need to succeed.
Scholarship Details and Eligibility
The Jerome Burke Foundation awards a $1,000 scholarship to eligible African American high school male students. This scholarship can be used at any accredited college or trade school.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the scholarship:
- Identify as an African-American male student.
- Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Be a senior attending an Illinois school by the application deadline of October 15th.
- Have completed 10 hours of community service or agree to complete 10 hours of community service.
- Be available to attend the Annual Gala on the second Saturday in December; the exact date will be announced.
Through this scholarship, the Jerome Burke Foundation aims to continue Jerome's legacy of mentorship and support, providing young African American men with the resources they need to pursue higher education and achieve their dreams.
