Please read the following carefully — it contains everything you need to know to apply for the PGA REACH Georgia Scholarship. Complete the application fully and submit it via Google Forms by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025. All information must be accurate; PGA REACH Georgia will keep your materials confidential.
Purpose
- The PGA REACH Georgia Scholarship exists to encourage and support students who:
- Have demonstrated strong achievement in high school,
- Have financial need, and
- Have shown an interest in the game of golf.
Who is eligible
All applicants must meet these requirements:
- Be a Georgia PGA Junior Tour Member in 2024 or 2025.
- Have participated in at least two Georgia PGA Junior Tour tournaments in 2024 or 2025. (Note: playing ability is not a determining factor.)
- Reside in the state of Georgia.
- Demonstrate financial need for educational expenses.
- Complete high school before August 15, 2025.
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll as a full-time student. Full-time means 12 or more credit hours toward an associate (2-year) or bachelor’s (4-year) degree at an accredited U.S. college or university, or the institution’s definition of full-time.
What the committee will review
The Scholarship Committee considers academic achievement and character as well as financial need. Items reviewed include:
- Class rank and cumulative GPA (transcript should be from the fall semester of the 2024–2025 school year)
- ACT and/or SAT scores (if available)
- College admission notice (if available)
- FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) to determine financial need
- Participation in Georgia PGA Junior Tour events, on-course etiquette, and sportsmanship
- Extracurricular activities, honors, and awards
- Letters of recommendation (preferred, but not required) — ideally from a teacher, counselor, advisor, or PGA Professional
- Personal essay (100–300 words)
How to apply (quick checklist)
- Complete the Google Form application in full by 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2025.
- Have the following documents ready to submit or upload if the form requests them:
- Official or school transcript (fall 2024–2025 semester)
- FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR)
- ACT/SAT scores (if available)
- College admission notice (if available)
- Letters of recommendation (optional but recommended)
- Personal essay (100–300 words)
- Make sure all information you provide is accurate.
Available scholarships and special eligibility notes
- Bill Cowles Scholarship — one award of $2,500
- Named for Bill Cowles, a longtime Georgia PGA volunteer who helped build the Junior Tour. This award honors students who show the character traits competitive golf cultivates: sportsmanship, integrity, self-discipline, perseverance, and resilience.
- Chuck Edmonson Scholarship — one award of $2,500
- Named for Chuck Edmonson, another longtime volunteer. This scholarship recognizes students who reflect the patience, adaptability, and lifelong learning that are part of golf and life.
- Stubbs Family Scholarship — one award of $2,500
- Created to honor Richard Stubbs and continued by his family. Eligibility: applicants must be an employee or the dependent child of an employee of a golf course facility served by a Georgia PGA professional and must be currently enrolled in a college or university. Preference is given to students who play on a collegiate golf team, but that is not required.
- Haskins Foundation Scholarship — one award of $2,500
- Supports the legacy of Fred Haskins and promotes collegiate golf. Eligibility: applicants must have been a Georgia PGA Junior Tour Member at some point from 2018–2022 and be currently enrolled in a college or university. Preference is given to those playing on a collegiate golf team, but that is not required.
A couple of final notes from a teacher
- Be thorough and honest — incomplete or inaccurate applications may not be considered.
- The committee cares about your whole profile: academics, character, financial need, and your involvement with junior golf.
- If you have questions about what to upload or how to complete the form, ask sooner rather than later so you don’t miss the deadline.
