Kentucky Association Fairs & Horse Shows Youth Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Kentucky Association Fairs & Horse Shows
Every year, the Kentucky Association of Fairs and Horse Shows (KAFHS) takes great pride in acknowledging the hard work and dedication of volunteers who have made significant contributions to their local fairs, agriculture, and their communities. We do this through the presentation of numerous awards and youth scholarships. We strongly urge all fairs to participate in these rewarding programs.
For those interested in the scholarship awards, the following criteria must be met:
1. The candidate should be a youth who has actively participated and volunteered in the current year's local county fair. The selection of these youths is at the discretion of the local fair.
2. The candidate should either be a high school senior or in their first year of post-secondary education, and should not have reached their 21st birthday by October 1st of the application year.
3. The candidate must be a resident of the county where the nominating fair is located.
4. The application process requires an essay, penned by the applicant, on the topic of “What opportunities have opened up to you since participating/volunteering with your county fair.” The essay should not exceed 500 words.
5. Each application must be accompanied by a one-page letter of recommendation from the local fair board.
6. Only one entry is allowed per fair.
7. Six winners will be selected from across the state, with two winners from each zone.
8. The winners will be chosen by a judging panel from the awards committee prior to the annual meeting.
9. Entries must be postmarked to: LuAnn Asbury, 2853 Asbury Rd, Augusta, KY 41002 or emailed to: luasbury@outlook.com. The fair contact will be notified upon receipt. If you have any queries, please call or text LuAnn at (606) 564-0478 or email the address above by or on October 1st.
10. Each winner will receive a $2,000 Cash Scholarship and a commemorative plaque.
11. Please note that the scholarship can only be won once.
12. It is highly recommended that the recipients attend the annual business meeting in January to receive their scholarship.
