Richard E. and Nancy P. Marriott Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Richard E. & Nancy P. Marriott Foundation
The Richard E. & Nancy P. Marriott Foundation Scholarship is a financial aid program designed to assist deserving students in offsetting the expenses associated with pursuing an undergraduate degree. The selection of scholars is based on a comprehensive evaluation of their academic prowess and objectives, involvement in community activities, financial necessity, recommendations, and a personal essay penned by the student.
The scholarship offers a minimum of $1,000 to students who are either planning to attend or are currently enrolled in one of the specified universities. The exact amount awarded to each student may vary, depending on factors such as the cost of attendance, the student's financial need, and other resources available to the student. These scholarships are annual grants, and students are required to reapply each year.
Eligibility for the Scholarship:
1. The student must be planning to attend or currently attending one of the following universities within a year: BYU – Idaho; BYU – Hawaii; BYU – Provo; Southern Virginia University; The University of Utah; Utah State University; Utah Valley University; or Weber State University.
2. Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree on a full-time basis and must have at least 1 year remaining in their degree program.
3. The scholarship is renewable up to three times or until the undergraduate degree has been achieved, whichever occurs first, provided the student successfully reapplies.
4. The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and abide by the scholarship agreement.
Application Guidelines for the Scholarship:
1. Each applicant must submit a completed application form.
2. Each applicant must submit a typed essay of no more than 500 words describing a past experience that has significantly influenced them.
3. Each applicant must provide two letters of recommendation, a current academic transcript, and a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
4. Semi-finalists must be available to participate in a phone interview.
5. Applications that do not meet the requirements or are incomplete will not be considered.
6. Additional information may be requested from scholarship applicants.
7. At the conclusion of the scholarship review cycle, each applicant will be notified via email regarding their selection for an award.
8. A Scholarship Renewal application must be submitted each year.
