Colorado Masonic Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by M.W. Grand Lodge of Colorado
Think of the Colorado Masons’ Benevolent Fund scholarships as a long-running community investment in Colorado students. The program began in 1966 and, to date, has awarded more than $15 million to over 1,700 students. Here’s what a smart student should know.
What the awards are
- Four‑year scholarships: Recently these have been $7,000 per year, renewable for up to four years (maximum $28,000). Awards are made primarily for leadership, maturity, financial need, and scholastic ability — and are given without reference to race, creed, color, sex, or Masonic relationship.
- Vocational grants: One‑time awards, usually about $1,000, intended for vocational education at Colorado institutions. The application requirements and selection criteria are the same as for the four‑year scholarships.
Who is eligible
- Applicants must be graduating seniors from a Colorado public high school and must plan to attend an institution of higher learning in Colorado.
- Home‑schooled students are eligible if they have an ongoing relationship with the local public school (for example, participation in band, sports, or other activities).
How recipients are chosen
- The scholarship administrator runs the day‑to‑day program but does not take part in selecting winners.
- A Scholarship Committee — six qualified members plus a chair — selects recipients each year. Their choices are made with the Grand Master’s guidance and approval.
- The number of scholarships awarded each year depends on the investment earnings of the Benevolent Fund and is set by the Fund’s Board of Trustees.
Recent figures you might care about
- Seven new four‑year scholarships at $7,000 per year were awarded in 2023, and seven were awarded again in 2024.
- In 2024 the Benevolent Fund contributed roughly $200,000 to higher education in Colorado.
If you’re advising students, tell them this: strong leadership, solid grades, demonstrated maturity, and clear financial need matter — and staying informed about application deadlines and local school involvement can make a difference.
