DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship
Scholarship Sponsored by Department of Energy
Here’s a clearer, teacher-friendly version that keeps all the essential facts while organizing them so it’s easier to read and remember. Quick overview - The DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) supports full-time, uninterrupted Ph.D. study at an accredited U.S. university for up to four years (funding renewed each year). - Applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. - Students in engineering and the physical, computer, mathematical, or life sciences are encouraged to apply. Who is eligible (measured at the time you apply) - Undergraduate seniors - Current master’s students (important: you must plan to enroll in a different institution for Ph.D. studies that begin the fall term when DOE CSGF funding starts) - First-year graduate students - Employed individuals planning to begin Ph.D. study - Others who are matriculating into graduate school Who is not eligible - Second-year or beyond graduate students - Students pursuing a concurrent professional doctoral degree (for example, M.D./Ph.D., J.D./Ph.D., D.V.M./Ph.D., etc.) Requirements while you are a fellow - You must be enrolled full-time as a graduate student at an accredited U.S. institution and be conducting research in areas of interest to the Department of Energy (DOE). - Summers should be spent on full-time, degree-related research, enrolled in classes, or on a practicum assignment at a DOE facility. - The fellowship is intended to support continuous focus on your Ph.D.; it is not for part-time or interrupted study. Teaching assistant (TA) policy — freedom to focus on research - The program is designed to let fellows concentrate on coursework and research. Your home department must waive teaching requirements beyond one academic term. Annual renewal and funding - Each year you must submit an online renewal application that shows: - acceptable academic performance, - satisfactory progress toward your approved coursework, - completion of a laboratory practicum experience, - research that is relevant to DOE interests. - The length of your award and the funding amount may depend on your status and anticipated costs. - The Krell Institute must approve any extra graduate responsibilities (for example, a TA appointment) before you take them on. - Fellows may accept scholarships, prizes, and payments (including veteran’s benefits) that do not require a service obligation. If you want, I can turn this into a one-page checklist or a printable flyer you can hand out to students. Which would you prefer?
